  • OperaDelaware began in 1945 when local artisans, led by Chick Laird, set out to present classic opera in Wilmington at affordable prices. Today, it serves a diverse audience across the East Coast while staying rooted in the Wilmington community. As the only professional opera company in Delaware and the 11th oldest in the nation, it provides vital arts education, employs about 250 local artists and staff each season, and operates on a $1.5 million annual budget. Recognized with major grants and awards—including from the NEA, Opera America, and the National Opera Association—OperaDelaware continues to uphold its founding philosophy of “Opera for Everyone.”

The funds collected from these events will be directed to our Nonprofit organization, The Art Society at Loblolly. Our mission is to enrich Central Delaware with more art, nature, and a sense of community. We believe that art and nature are integral parts of any community, and by fostering these, we can enhance the quality of life for all residents.
